First win in the books. Wings beat Ottawa 3-2. They played much better than the first game loss to Toronto. 19 turnovers in that game with the first goal resulting from a dumb backhand clear by Osgood to the open side of the net with a Maple Leaf there. Much better game tonite with Franzen scoring 2 goals that were not good ones for Ottawa goalie Gerber. The winner was a deflection off a D stick but from a bad angle that should have been stopped. But we’ll take it as the Wings haven’t started the season 0-2 since 1989.
I see Columbus’s Peca has been suspended for contact with the Ref. After being knocked down by a Dallas player who then scored, Peca went to complain about the non call. The Ref started to skate away so Peca grabbed his arm. He also supposedly swung his stick at the glass and hit a linesman but he says that is completely false. A hearing will be held and there’s always video so look for him to sit a game or two.
