Meanwhile, back in court…..

Ah, interesting how everyone has a different perspective on what happened four years ago during the Bertuzzi/Moore incident. Coach Marc Crawford is claiming Bertuzzi acted in “direct disobedience” of the team’s coaching staff in his 2004 attack on Colorado Avalanche forward Steve Moore. Crawford stated that the Canucks’ coaching staff was attempting to pull Bertuzzi off the ice before the attack that broke Moore’s neck and ended his career. This is Crawford’s defense in a court statement about the incident. More legalese follows with the ending of…..Crawford could not be expected to have reasonably anticipated, let alone control Bertuzzi’s actions. Crawford is trying to protect himself from a claim by Bertuzzi that stated that Crawford should be libel to pay damages awarded to Moore.

I know this incident has been talked about before, so I’m just going to comment about Crawford. Yeah, he’s doing this on legal advice; but whether he knew the players would try to get Moore ( in retaliation for an earlier incident where Moore injured a Canuck) or not, he was still the coach responsible for the players actions. But he should have had a good inclination they would because that’s the way the game is. (Witness the McCarthy payback fight on Lemieux after the Draper hit years ago.) I guess that’s why we have judges and juries to sort out if he has to pay part of the 38 million dollar lawsuit.
