The Wings

Ah yes, a fine end to the season. It’s not easy to win 16 games in the Playoffs. They start and it really doesn’t matter where you finished in the regular season, I’ve seen the Wings knocked out in the first or second round after finishing in the top 3. This year we had size and scoring where some years we had one or the other. The open ice in the regular season goes away in the playoffs. I’ve seen some guys disappear with the increased hitting back when we had skill but not size. Back in ‘95 the N.J. trap drove them crazy when they couldn’t do what they were accustomed to doing, and were swept in the Finals. Some good years they didn’t adjust fast enough to the playoff style, they played great in the regular season and thought the same style would continue to work. But when the passes don’t get through and the goals are few and far between; disaster strikes. So we happily take every Cup win we can get. Sorry to be greedy, I know some teams haven’t even been close enough to play for it for decades.

                                          Our Goalies.

I was so-so when Osgood returned, I thought he was a good goalie but not the one we needed. Of course we had Hasek so that was okay. Well, Ozzie proved something when Hasek floundered and he came in. I’m always wanting a Patrick Roy or similar goalie but with the team we have in front we don’t need the superstar goalie; just the journeyman one to keep us in the game. So with Howard or Conklin backing up next year we look pretty good there.
