Things have slowed down a bit. But it looks like Scotty Bowman’s Detroit stay is over. Bowman, a consultant with Detroit since his coaching retirement in 2002; looks to be named as a Senior Advisor to the Chicago Blackhawks today. Bowman said in late June he was happy in Detroit and not going anywhere. Strange, but [...]

Ah Homer, sounds like something Homer Simpson would do, not Tomas Holmstrom. He let his cousin use it as a baptismal font for a christening. Holmstrom suggested the idea to his cousin, Robert Sundstrom, who baptized his seven-week-old daughter in it. It must be a Swedish thing. 6 more Swedes will have the Cup in [...]

Ryan Miller signed a five-year, $31.25 million contract extension on Friday that will keep him in Buffalo thru the 2013-2014 season. I like Miller and wouldn’t have minded seeing him play for the Wings. But with this deal that probably will never happen. Good for him as he was a big factor in the Sabres [...]

Dallas Drake announced his retirement today after 15 seasons with 3 teams. He had 177 goals and 477 points with Detroit, Winnipeg/Phoenix and St. Louis. He returned to Detroit this year and won the Stanley Cup in the only finals appearance of his career. A happy ending for a good player.

Datsyuk and Orpik seem to be dancing as the puck rolls toward the goal line. It was a goal and the Wings won the Cup.
Two more name signings, Straka goes back home to the Czech Republic; and Demitra signs with Vancouver.

Ah yes, a fine end to the season. It’s not easy to win 16 games in the Playoffs. They start and it really doesn’t matter where you finished in the regular season, I’ve seen the Wings knocked out in the first or second round after finishing in the top 3. This year we had size [...]
